How Long is the LSAT?

The LSAT (Law School Admission Test) has a total allotted time of approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, excluding breaks and administrative instructions. The test is divided into multiple sections, each with its own time limit. Here is a breakdown of the time allocation for each section:

Logical Reasoning:

There are two Logical Reasoning sections, and each section consists of approximately 25 to 26 multiple-choice questions. You will have approximately 35 minutes to complete each section.

Analytical Reasoning (Logic Games):

This section typically includes four logic games, and you will have around 35 minutes to solve the questions related to these games.

Reading Comprehension:

The Reading Comprehension section usually includes four passages, with each passage followed by several multiple-choice questions. You will have approximately 35 minutes to complete this section.

Writing Sample:

The Writing Sample is not timed separately, but you will have 35 minutes to complete a single essay in response to a provided prompt. This section is not scored, but it is sent to law schools as part of your application.

In addition to the sections mentioned above, there may be an additional unscored experimental section that can appear in any format (Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, or Reading Comprehension). This section does not contribute to your score, but you won't know which section is experimental, so it is important to approach each section as if it counts.

It's worth noting that the LSAT-Flex, the online version of the LSAT introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has a slightly different format and timing. For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the LSAT's duration and format, it is recommended to visit the official LSAC (Law School Admission Council) website.
